5 Ways To Get Free Fuel For Your Car

What are you doing to combat rising fuel costs? If you’re not trying the following ways to get free fuel, you’re not doing enough.

Gas prices have skyrocketed lately, and many wonder if they’ll ever go back down to a “normal” range. If you don’t drive frequently, you can save on gas by only using your car for essential trips. But if you need to drive daily for work, you don’t have that choice.

While you could carpool and try other methods to cut gas consumption to save money, there’s an overlooked way to make fuel more affordable: Get free gas vouchers. Let’s look at some places where you may have luck finding them.

1. 211

If you want to cut to the chase and avoid contacting several organizations separately, a quick call to 211 may be your best bet. Dialing those three numbers will connect you to a local operator with expertise in all types of assistance in your area, including free gas.

Tell the operator you’re interested in gas vouchers. And if you need other assistance with housing, food, etc., don’t forget to ask about that too.

2. The Society Of St. Vincent de Paul

As you’ll find with most resources on this list, you can ask the Society of St. Vincent de Paul for help with other things beyond gas. They sometimes offer gas vouchers to low-income applicants, although they specialize more in food, rent, clothing, and utility assistance.

Should you strike gold and get gas vouchers here, you’ll have to limit your driving to essential trips. In other words, they won’t give you vouchers so you can drive around town. Instead, you’ll need to show that you’re using the gas to get to work, the doctor, etc.

3. Catholic Charities

Since Catholic Charities offers so much assistance to families in need across various departments, don’t hesitate to contact them. Your nearest chapter may offer free gas vouchers, especially with how expensive fuel is nowadays.

4. Salvation Army

You can count on the Salvation Army for help with food, shelter, and more. Sometimes, however, they give out free gas vouchers to those who offer proof of a financial need.

If you can show low income and high expenses, you may get a Salvation Army gas voucher. Using it will be limited to taking trips to and from work, visiting the doctor, and other essentials.

5. Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT)

Medicaid recipients can use this program to get reimbursed for gas. Reimbursement will be limited to trips you take to and from medical providers. After you make your trip to the doctor, you can notify the program, and they’ll send you a debit card for whatever you spent on gas.
