Having less than stellar vision can also cause painful headaches on a regular basis. Vision USA is offered by the American Optometric Association. It connects volunteer optometrist with low income individuals to provide them with free eye exams. To apply, “You must work with a charitable organization, social worker, case worker, community health agency to submit an application.”. They only accept applications made through referral agencies.

A program called New Eyes uses vouchers to purchase prescription eyeglasses for those in need. To qualify, you must have had a recent eye exam, meet the U.S poverty guidelines, and not have any other resources to help them get eyeglasses. Like Vision USA, individuals cannot apply on their own behalf. Your local social service agency must apply on your behalf.

Through these two programs, you can get the eye care you need without a hefty price tag. You should also check to see if your are eligible of for Medi-Cal vision benefits in your state. If you already have Medi-cal insurance, or are eligible, you should be able to qualify. Regardless of what program you use, you don’t have to keep struggling with poor eyesight.
