With summer coming up we know that it can be hard to save money, and our bills can start to rack up. We gathered a list of ways to keep cool and happy without blowing through your expenses. If you can’t follow them all, that is OK! Saving some money is always better than saving none.

Air-Conditioning– Although it would be nice to never turn the air on, we know that is not always a reasonable option in sweltering heat. Instead of keeping the air on all day and night we can save money by opening windows in the evening or even have a fan turned on low.

Laundry– Washing laundry in cold water is a good way to lower your bills. If you have somewhere you can hang a line with clothespins to dry clothing, that is another way to lower your bills, and it works just as well!

Unplug– Often times we leave things plugged into outlets that we are not using, such as lights we don’t use or chargers that aren’t charging anything. Go around your home and unplug anything that you are not using – why waste energy with no reward?

Evenings Outdoors– With extended daylight hours we can take advantage of the outdoors. By reading outside, taking a walk or just relaxing outdoors you reduce the usage of electricity. This way, when you do come inside and unwind, turn on the air, and start using electronics, you have reduced your usage.

Doors– Shut any doors to areas/rooms that are not being used to reduce the area that needs cooling.

Computers– If you have a desktop computer at home, be sure to turn the screen off when you are done using it.

We hope these summer saving tips are helpful to you. If you have any saving ideas of your own please share them with us!
