What’s one of the simplest moves you can make when you need to save money? Stop spending. Unfortunately, that’s not an option for everyone, especially when a family is involved.

Let’s say you have children, for example. There’s no real end to spending on new clothes, food, healthcare, schooling, and the like. What can you do if you’re in such a situation so you can continue to spend but also pay your bills on time? Let’s discuss that now.

Don’t ignore dollar stores

Yes, dollar stores sometimes have items that cost more than a buck. Still, you should take advantage of their low prices for certain purchases, such as:

  • Coffee filters
  • Gift bags, boxes, bows, and wrapping paper
  • Greeting cards
  • Hair accessories
  • Notebooks and other stationery
  • Pain relievers
  • Party supplies
  • Reading glasses
  • Reading glasses
  • Seasonal decorations
  • Socks
  • Storage containers
  • Washcloths and dish towels
  • And more…

If you don’t have any dollar stores near you, opt for generic brand products. Many have the same exact ingredients as their brand name counterparts, so there’s no need to pay a premium.

Get a rewards card

If you must spend, you might as well get some cash back while doing it. That’s where a rewards card comes in handy.

If your credit is good enough to secure a reliable rewards card, be sure to pay it on time to maintain your score.

Find stuff for free

Thanks to the Internet, you can find items at no cost via sites like Craigslist and Facebook.

Here’s what a quick trip to Craiglist’s free stuff section (which is located in the For Sale part of the site) resulted in at the time of this writing:

  • Live farm chickens
  • Elliptical exercise trainer
  • Washer/dryer
  • King mattress
  • Entertainment center
  • Filing cabinet

Why would someone offer such expensive items for free? Because they don’t want to pay anything to move the items and would rather have someone else (like you) pick them up.

Craigslist and Facebook are excellent options for college students in need of furniture, or anyone seeking an absolute, zero-dollar bargain.

Barter your services or goods

Do you love kids and have friends who need babysitters from time to time? You can be that babysitter for them in exchange for something else besides money.

Swapping your services isn’t the only way to save cash, as you can trade your possessions too. Books and toys are popular items that you can exchange with others to get new things for yourself or your kids without paying a penny.

Find more affordable grooming options

A trip to the nail spa or hair salon can put a dent in your monthly budget. You probably don’t want to skimp on your grooming, though.

How can you get your nails or hair done for less than you usually pay? Visit your local cosmetology school.

Some will offer low prices for their services so their students can get live practice on a real person. Not only do you get a nice discount by using a school, but you also get to help up-and-comers perfect their craft.[/fusion_text][/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
